"Sang Pencerah" Movie Resume

‘Sang Pencerah’ is a movie created by Hanung Bramantyo. This movie based on a true story about Kyai Haji Ahmad Dahlan. The story begins when Darwis (Little Kid Name of Ahmad Dahlan) want to go to Makkah for study. At that time, he was 15 years old, still young. Abu Bakar (Ahmad Dahlan’s Father) gives his permission to Darwis to go to Makkah for study. Five years later, Darwis comes back to Yogyakarta. Darwis changes his name become Ahmad Dahlan. Ahmad Dahlan becomes so smart and clever, he also capable playing violin. Sometimes when he goes to Kauman Mosque, he looks at the compass, and how shocked he is, because the ‘kiblat’ or pray direction is wrong, not looked towards Ka’bah in Makkah, but looked towards Afrika. So to change it to look towards to Ka’bah in Makkah, it should shift to the right 23º from the first position. Ahmad Dahlan so struggle to assure everyone about it. Until Kyai Cholil Kamaludiningrat getting angrier and every one says that Ahmad Dahlan is Kafir. After his father dies, he becomes Kyai in Kauman Big Mosque substituting his father (Abu Bakar) on 1869. Ahmad Dahlan expert in playing violin, so he is reputed controversial. Ahmad Dahlan also accused kafir because he open a school that put his student in the Dutch modern school, Ahmad Dahlan also teaches islamic religion in Kweekschool or noble’s school in Jetis, Yogyakarta. Ahmad Dahlan also joined with Boedi Utomo on 1809.

 In this movie, we can look that Ahmad Dahlan very strong to maintain Islam in Indonesia, not only in the mosque as like as another Kyai, but also in education and Indonesia’s liberty movement (Boedi Utomo). So on 12 November 1902, Ahmad Dahlan makes a declaration that Muhammadiyah was born on that date. Muhammadiyah not a religion, there is no purpose in Muhammadiyah to spread self religion confidence. There are some quotes that I like from this movie. First is when Ahmad Dahlan’s student asks about religion? Then Ahmad Dahlan plays the violin and said that religion is beautiful, peaceful, tranquillity, bright and clear, because religion’s essence is such as a music. If we do not study carefully it, it will make fidgety around us and becomes an object of ridicule. Second is “Justification only from Allah, human just can endeavor (ikhtiar)”. Third is “Islam more and more far from itself (muslim), because they comprehend it in a superficial manner”. After I watch this movie, I say to myself, what have you do for Islam? Have you make any struggle as like as Ahmad Dahlan? It becomes my motivation for myself
